Our History

Beast Within Studios is a small North Carolina based multi-media studio. Our humble beginnings started from the subconscious sketches of founder Freddie Kemp, who drew the "kit-ee" logo with the words "Beast Within Studios" scribed on the back of a filled sketchbook in 1998. The sketchbook would sit dormant, packed away collecting dust for 4 years. In 2002 Freddie noticed a growing gap between friends that enjoyed the same interests in art and entertainment. To bridge that gap and for a way to showcase his work he turned to the World Wide Web, where he created a domain doing just that beastwithinstudios.com . At the heart is the illustration and design skills of creator Freddie Kemp. Many members have come and gone to the studio family and in early 2006 BWS was proud to announce it's most recent addition to the studio family with the video editing and photography expertise of long time friend and confidant Stephen Herbster. The studio currently enjoys an active and growing forum community where everyone is encouraged to share their ideas and opinions on various topics as well as express and share their creative talents for instant feedback and critique. Growing up in upstate suburbia New York the encouragment to be creative has been prevalent in Freddie's life since his early childhood. From exploring the woodworking shop in his grandfather's basement to the countless hours spent watching his father design and paint signs Freddie has been exposed to creativity. His interest in drawing began by recreating the pictures from comics and the heroes from his baseball cards. It was'nt until exploring the old damp cellar that his interest in drawing and art took true form. Down in that old damp musty cellar he discovered his father's collection of art books and already classic Conan the Barbarian, Heavy Metal, Creepy, Fear, Epic Illustrated, and Eerie magazines. In awe of the masterful works he found there by such artists as Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, and John Buscema Freddie knew this was the career path he wanted to follow...

Stephen Herbster

Stephen Herbster

Stephen Herbster is the Avid Editor for the Carolina Panthers. On a weekly basis he edits the Panthers Huddle TV show, as well as content for the Panthervision screens at Bank of America Stadium, and the Panthers GameDay show. In addition he edits commercials and special projects, creates graphics and animations, produces DVDs and internet content and even occasionally shoots video as well. In the off-season in his spare time, Stephen does some freelance work and his clients include; NASCAR Images, Raycom Sports, Lincoln Financial Sports, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Charlotte Bobcats, Limerick Studios, Duke University and Zack Watt. In his free time he enjoys SCUBA diving, kayaking, and driving his Jeep.
